About Us

Every year, we help raise money and awareness for endangered manatees during our Save the Manatee 5K. All proceeds are donated to the Save the Manatee Club.

On Saturday, September 28th, we will be hosting our in-person Michigan 21st Annual Save the Manatee 5K at Lake St. Clair Metropark, Michigan. Come walk or run our 5K event or participate in our Two Mile Walk or Manatee Mini Mile.

We are also proud to continue our Virtual Save the Manatee 5K. Join 1,600 participants from around the world as they run, walk, bike, hike, kayak or swim for the fun of it and for the great cause!  Virtual participants can choose any event, time and course.

I was a biology teacher at L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township, Michigan and what started as a novel idea has grown into an unbelievable passion.  I love doing this and with the help of participants from around the world, I am proud that this will be our 21st year! Over the last twenty years, our nonprofit event has raised over $409,000 for Florida-based Save the Manatee Club, a national nonprofit conservation organization and the voice for manatees since 1981.

Patrick Rose, Executive Director of Save the Manatee Club commends the students of L’Anse Creuse High School for their care, dedication and hard work to make each race a success. Car washes and fundraisers held throughout the year help raise additional funds. “Our heartfelt thanks go out to Lesley, other teachers in her school, the students, volunteers, community businesses, and everyone who runs or walks in the race. Each of them literally helps to further our work saving endangered manatees and their habitats with every stride that is taken.”

Virtual and actual participants receive a manatee t-shirt, a manatee bib and manatee finisher medal. To register, please visit https://raceroster.com/events/2024/85175/save-the-manatee
